The Handmade Process

Tesla Movie Poster

HANDMADE DESIGN | PHOTOGRAPHY

Tesla is a biopic about Nikola Tesla, a Siberian-American inventor and futurist
who made monumental breakthroughs in
the application of electrical power, but was cast down and out-shadowed by inventors such as Thomas Edison. In this film, director Michael Almereyda adds a creative spin to the biopic, which takes place in the late 1880s New York City, by interjecting modern day technologies (iPhones, laptops), fact-checks and even a cameo of David Bowie’s “The Prestige.” The inclusion of such paradox within Almeredya’s film, reinforces the notion that Tesla was a futurist whose scientific inventions shaped the world we live in today. Within this design, I hoped to reiterate  Almereyda’s paradox with the inclusion of film photography, representative of the past, and the electric component (fairy lights), representative of Tesla's contributions to the future.
